Pork board takes on breastfeeding
If you happened across the Lactivist CafePress site and saw a shirt that said “The other white milk”, what would your first thought be? (Hint, the Lactivist is a website that supports breastfeeding of children). Would you associate that shirt with pork?
Now that you’ve had a chance to think about pork you may have thought of the pork slogan of “The other white meat”. Apparently the similarity is a little too close for the pork people. They sent a cease and desist letter to the Lactivist demanding that they take that shirt off their site because it is a trademark violation. And it looks like they sent one to CafePress as well since the shirt isn’t available now.
Yes, trademark protection is important. But it’s not like the shirt says “pork will kill your kid, breastfeed ‘em instead.” Just think of all the “Got Milk” knockoffs you see around.
On the upside for the Lactivist, they are probably going to get a lot of free advertising out of this. People love a big corporation doing stupid stuff to the little guy type story.
