Ugly children get shafted by parents

Don’t deny it parents. You treat your pretty kid better than your ugly kid. Research says so.

Researchers at the University of Alberta observed parent / child interaction in a supermarket. They found that physical attractiveness made a big difference in how the child was treated.

The researchers kept track of how many times the parents’ attention lapsed, how many ‘potentially dangerous’ situations the child was able to get in to, and if the child was belted into the cart. Children were also ranked on a 1-to-10 scale of attractiveness.

What they found was disturbing. Pretty kids were belted in in a linear relationship to the attractiveness scale. With mothers 4% of ugly children were belted in compared to 13.3% of pretty children. Fathers changed the percentages to 0% and 12.5% respectively. Ugly kids were also more likely to be allowed up to 10 feet away from their parents.

Apparently, ugly kids are also more likely to become criminals.

  1. I can attest to that! I and my sister are ugly while my little brother and sister are “attractive” Our parents let us do what ever we wanted that might ensue a sure death while the pretty kids were kept under close vigilence.

  2. It is awful! Children are children! And all children are beautiful! And often it happens so that pretty child grows up in an ugly grownup and vice versa. Think of ugly duckling!
