Cause of death - Gambling Addiction
62-year-old Andre Baril blew his life savings of $50,000 in a matter of weeks on a lottery game called Banco. Baril was addicted, and it only took a few weeks for his savings to dwindle.
According to family the retired Baril had been playing reguarly since winning a jackpot of $25,000 a few years ago.
Last August, Baril shot himself.
That tragically sad story is of course not the stupid part.
The stupidity comes to us from Quebec Coroner Jean-Francois Dorval who ruled the cause of Baril’s death a gambling addiction, not suicide.
And now, back from the stupidity… Dorval feels that lotto retailers should be licensed and trained to recognize gambling addicts. Lotto-Quebec will consider the idea, but feels that it will be difficult to implement.
