Dead woman left watching TV for over 2 years
Two and a half years after her death, the mummified body of Johannas Pope was found sitting in front of her television set.
Pope died in August 2003 at the age of 61. She had told her live-in caregiver that she did not want to be buried and ‘planned on returning’.
Now, the creepy part…
Pope was found upstairs in a house with family members living downstairs. An air conditioner had been left running which allowed the body to slowly mummify. When the air conditioner stopped working last month, the body began to smell. That smell lead to the discovery of the body.
After a call from a concerned relative, presumably not one living at the house, police went to the house. Behind a door blocked by a basket, police found a staircase leading up to the second floor where Pope’s body was sitting.
Coroner O’Dell Owens stated that he caregiver is “a pretty normal kind of person,” and “out of loyalty, friendship, and love of her friend, she decided to keep the body at home.”
