Maybe Google isn’t so great
You’d think searching for ’search engine’ on Google would bring Google up in the first slot. It comes in at #8. Here’s the search, try it for yourself. There’s a screen capture below, just in case something changes.

I reckon Google are being a bit smart here. If you’re already using Google, then putting the website you’ve already found in the top five is not that helpful. So other sites are probably more relevant - which is what Google strives to achieve.
