Retired Elvis impersonator helps police nab crook
An ex-Elvis impersonator helped Las Vegas police arrest a man suspected of stealing more than $300,000 worth of memorabilia from the Elvis-A-Rama museum.
62-year-old Duke Adams, an “older-era Elvis”, was waiting in a pharmacy line when a man offered to sell him items once belonging to the real Elvis. The items offered included jewelry, clothing, and a revolver.
Recalling a March 2004 burglary, Adams asked Eliab Aguilar to stop by his business the next day with the items. Aguilar came the next day with all but one item.
Detective Kelli Hickle, “He’d laid it all out on the table. It couldn’t have been handed to me more clearly.” Hickle has been on the case since March 2004, when Aguilar allegedly backed a stolen tow truck into the museum and used the tow hok to lift an overhead door.
Aguilar was charged with burglary, grand larceny auto, possession of stolen property, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Items recovered
- A $77,000 41-caret ruby and diamond ring
- A $65,000 gold and black onyx mediallion with “Elvis” spelled in diamonds
- A gold-plated Smith & Wesson .38 special
