Pope’s Ford Escort sold for $690,000
John O’Quinn, a 62-year-old Baptist, purchased a light blue 1975 Ford Escort that once belonged to Pope John Paul II for $690,000.
O’Quinn, a Houston personal injury lawyer who made his fortune as part of a multibillion dollar settlement with tobacco companies, says that the car will never be driven. He added, “but hopefully, in my life, I’ll be able to go back and touch this car and feel the pope’s spirit.”
At least 7 others were outbid for the Escort.
