Marry him anyway, even if he can’t spell
Does it matter if it’s “marry me” or “mary me”, or is it the thought that counts?
Chris Mueller of Hillsboro, ND, wanted to make a splash with his marriage proposal to girlfriend Katie Goltz. His idea: to plow the proposal in to a soybean field and then take Goltz on a plane flight so she could see it.
The problem was that after plowing the M in marry Mueller realized he didn’t have enough space to fit the entire word. So, he took out one of the R’s turning Marry into Mary. Said Mueller, “I figured it would look better to spell it wrong and get a laugh out of it, rather than botch it all. I could have fit all the letters in, but it would have looked tacky.”
Apparently it worked. Goltz said yes. “I scanned it, noticed what it said and was speechless,” says Goltz. “I said ‘yes’ and cried like all girls do.” After a closer inspection, “I thought it was so sweet that he spelled it wrong, I thought it made it more cute and more special.”
Tom Mueller, Chris’s father, has used similar plow work to send romantic messages to his wife, Diane.
