Russell Crowe was al-Qaeda target
Russell Crowe revealed yesterday that he was targeted by suspected al-Qaeda terrorists who intended to kidnap him before the 2001 Oscars.
Due to the threats, Crowe was followed by FBI agents during the filming of two movies. He told GQ magazine that when he was told of the threat was the first time he had heard of al-Qaeda.
The threat was reportedly picked up by French police in a recording from either Libya or Algeria. Crowe added that the FBI told him the kidnap threat may have been “overstated.”
