Attorney suing himself
Attorney Emert Wyss tried to do what lawyers do – to make money. But, in taking part in a class action lawsuit, . Not only that, four other lawfirms are after him. And he hired all four.
In 2002 Wyss was the attorney for Carmelita McLaughlin when she bought a home and again when she refinanced it. Both times McLaughlin chose Centerre Title to close her loans. Centerre Title is owned by Wyss.
As part of their attorney-client relationship, Whyss advised McLaughlin that she had a potential claim agains the holder of the first mortgage, Alliance Mortgage. Wyss believed that Alliance Mortgage had broken the law in charging a $60 tax fee when McLaughlin refinanced.
It appears that the fee in question was collected by Centerre Title, bringing the lawsuit full circle back to Wyss.
