How not to parent
A St. Paul man is in custody for keeping his girldfriends daughter in a kennel, often in the cold, and often without clothing.
Eric Bare, 42, admitted that he locked the 13-year-old girl in a kennel twice, once for 7 days and once for 3. But, he “fixed the kennel nice”, and felt that it was “a suitable temporary living arrangement.”
The girl called Bare dad, although he is not her biological father. He and the girl’s mother have lived together for the past 10 years.
The teen told police that she was only allowed out of the kennel to go to school and do chores. She also claimed that Bare would make her strip naked and squat to “see if anything came out.” Apparently, Bare was afraid that she had stolen a key and would escape.
