Two teens fined for handing out cookies
Two Colorado teenagers were fined almost $900 for handing out home-made cookies after one neighbor claimed they caused an anxiety attack.
Last July Taylor Ostergaard and Lindsey Jo Zellitte handed out plates of cookies to about half a dozen neighbors. The girls placed the cookies on the porches and knocked on the door. The cookies were accompanied with a note “have a great night.”
This activity was decided on by the pair instead of going to a dance where they feared there might be cursing and drinking, according to the Denver Post.
The knock on Wanita Renea Young’s, 49, door at 10:30pm allegedly triggered an anxiety attack. Young went to the hospital the next day thinking she was having a heart attack.
Ostergaar and Zellitte were ordered to pay $871.70 plus $30 in court costs. Punitive damages were not awarded. The judge in the case did not feel that the girls acted maliciously, but that 10:30pm was too late for knocking on peoples’ doors.
