5 year old taken from school in handcuffs

It sure must have been one tough kindergartener for handcuffs to be required to restrain him. A private school in St. Louis recently suspended its principal for resorting to police tactics to control a 5-year-old child.

Sam Morgan is on leave from Thurgood Marshall Academy in St. Louis awaiting results from an investigation. Morgan; who has been a principal for several years, along with 8 years working for the Department of Corrections; had a child handcuffed and driven around in a police car as a method to control the kid. Morgan claims that he has spent more time with this child “than any kid in this building, trying to steer him right”, and added that “He [the boy] fights, strikes somebody practically every day on the bus. He’s a constant disruption.”

As expected; the boy’s mother, Aroni Rucker, did not respond well to this. “They put handcuffs on my baby. That’s for adults who murder and kill. He’s 5. He’s in kindergarten.” Ms. Rucker had decided to pull both of her children out of this school before the incident.

The St. Louis Police Department is also looking into the incident, stating that handcuffing 5-year-olds is not a practice that the department is involved with.

The Thurgood Marshall Academy has already lost their sponsor for next year, and are looking for another to keep the school open. The current sponsor; The University of Missouri at St. Louis; cites fiscal mismanagement, corruption, and poor performance as reasons for pulling the plug. The academy has had seven principals in the last five years.
