World’s fastest fingers - Teen breaks text messaging record

17-year-old Ben Cook set a Guiness record for text messaging on his mobile phone. He entered the phrase “The razor-toothed prianhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human” in 57.75 seconds.

The previous record from Sept 24, 2003, was for 67 seconds on a live Australian TV show.

Says Mr. Cook, “I text-message more than I talk on the phone. My friends and I text message all the time. I’ve really gotten into it.”

For an even better quote, we go to the Cricket area general manager Rick Barlow; “Unbelievable! Ben certainly demonstrated the speed, precision, and dexterity to make us proud. We hope to certify this and bring the world text-messaging record to Utah. It was an incredible clutch performance.” Hopefully Ben doesn’t test positive for performance enhancing drugs. I’d hate to see something like that tarnish the purity of text-messaging competition :-) This guy is what got this story a mention. Ben’s record is somehow oddly cool. But, Barlow took it way too seriously.

Sadly, it took me almost as long to type in that phrase on my keyboard as Ben did on his phone.
