Sun CEO publicy caught by hoax

Scott McNealy, CEO of Sun Microsystems, was trying to make a point on how fast technology evolves. He wound up making a different point - how easy it is to fall for internet hoaxes.

Picture that caught McNealy McNealy was the keynote speaker at the recent Oracle OpenWorld show. The picture, at right, was credited to Popular Mechanics as a mockup of what computers would look like in 2004. The picture actually is a mockup, but of a nuclear submarine.

Internet hoaxes are nothing new, although it is somewhat reassuring that even someone at the head of a technology company falls for them.

McNealy did make an accurate final point however with “it’s hard to imagine where we’ll be 50 years from now.”
