Over a dozen online publishers have requested copies of the third annual Barney the dog holiday video. The White House is resisting, and instead is insisting that the video be available exclusively on its web site. They are also granting broadcast rights to TV networks.
What makes this stupid is that last years Barney video drew 24 million visitors to the White House web site. According to News.com, the same number of visitor went to political sites in the final month of the presidential election. A total of 117,679,144 voters cast their ballot in the 2004 presidential election.
Last year, the White House decided not to allow online publishers to show the video online. Instead, they were to link to the video at the www.WhiteHouse.gov.
